Kitchener-Waterloo is such a great area to live in and explore. But the other great thing about the area is its proximity to great day-trip destinations. You can take a day trip from Kitchener-Waterloo one day, and be back the next day to enjoy a local patio and hit up the Uptown and Downtown shops.

Wondering where to go on your next day trip? Here are some fun places to visit, all less than 2 hours from Kitchener-Waterloo.

St. Jacobs

10-20 minutes

You don’t even have to leave the Region to enjoy this destination. Located just North of Waterloo is the quaint village of St. Jacobs. With an outstanding Farmers’ Market, and a charming downtown village, you’ll be able to spend the day shopping and enjoying great food. If you’re feeling outdoorsy, you can explore the many trails St. Jacobs has to offer. Then, you’ll have a quick trip back home at the end of the day!

Paris

40-50 minutes

You don’t have to jump on a plane to jet-set to Paris. This Ontario city was voted “Canada’s Prettiest Little Town'' and is only a short roadtrip away. Located on the Nith River, there are lots of beautiful spots to explore, and restaurants to enjoy, overlooking the beautiful scenery. The lush foliage, architecture, restaurants and shops make this a charming place to visit year round.

Stratford

40-50 minutes

Stratford, Ontario is a great destination for a show with its Stratford Festival Stages always putting on fantastic plays and musicals. The downtown area is a great spot to explore, with beautiful architecture, and many city parks and gardens. You can take audio walking tours, explore art galleries and enjoy the delicious food offered at the local restaurants. Plus, do you know about the Stratford Chocolate Trail? It’s a self-guided tour that introduces you to 22 world-famous confectioners and bakers.

Toronto

90 minutes

There’s always lots to do in Toronto. If you’re heading down for an event or just to walk around the downtown core, you have a few ways of getting to this day-trip destination. You can always drive so you can jump around once you’re in Toronto. Or you can take a bus or train for a more stress-free trip.

Niagara Falls

90 minutes

This day-trip can take you to one of the Natural Wonders of the World in North America. This is a great family day-trip because you get to experience the outstanding Niagara Falls itself, plus there is endless entertainment on Clifton Hill. As a tourist attraction, you’ll be able to find fun packages to cater to any need; fun, food, wine, entertainment. There are also a lot of free things you can do in Niagara Falls (check them out here).

If you want to spend a few extra minutes in the car, you can always head to Niagara on the Lake for a picturesque drive, award-winning restaurants, wineries, high-tea, Shaw Festival and much more.

Grand Bend

90 minutes

In just 90 minutes you can hit the beach on Lake Huron. Grand Bend is a little beach town with sandy beaches, restaurants and shops, events and lots of fun activities to do. Lots of people book rental properties in the area for vacations, but Kitchener-Waterloo is close enough that you can just visit for the day if you want!
